The 8th house is the house of what is shared and what is surrendered: joint finances, inheritance, debt and taxes, sexual intimacy, deep psychological change, and death in both its literal and symbolic senses. It follows the 7th house of partnership and describes what happens once two lives are actually merged.
What the 8th House Governs
Where the 2nd house is what is mine, the 8th, opposite it, is what is ours — and what is owed. It governs money that comes through others: a partner's income, an inheritance, a loan, an insurance payout, the shared account. It also governs the intimacy that comes through others: the vulnerability of real closeness, sex as merging rather than pleasure, and the trust that has to be extended before any of it works.
Scorpio rules the 8th naturally, and the house carries that sign's association with endings and regeneration. Crises live here — the losses that reorganise a life — and so does the psychological work that follows them: therapy, grief, the confrontation with what one has been avoiding. The 8th is not a comfortable house, but it is where people become most fully themselves, usually by giving something up.
