What the 11th House Governs

Where the 5th house, opposite, is the individual heart and its romances, the 11th is the wider circle — friends rather than lovers, colleagues rather than partners, the club, the movement, the audience that becomes a community. Aquarius rules it naturally, and Uranus gives it a reforming streak: this is the house of ideals, of the world as it could be, and of the collective projects that try to get there.

The 11th also holds hopes and wishes in the old phrase — the long-range goals that outlast any single job — and, in traditional readings, income from career, the rewards that follow the 10th house's work. Its succedent position means it consolidates: it takes the public role and turns it into belonging.

Planets in the 11th House

The Sun in the 11th house tends to find identity through group membership and shared purpose — the organiser, the joiner, the person who is most themselves in a room full of allies. Friends are often as central as family, and causes matter. An empty 11th house says friendship and group life are not a headline theme, and passes the reading to the cusp sign and its ruler. Leo on the 11th tends toward a loyal, warm circle and a wish to shine within it; Virgo there chooses friends carefully and shows care through help. The ruler's house shows where friends are found and what the person hopes for: an 11th-house ruler in the 9th often finds its people through study, travel or belief.
